Major light show “Wonder of Light” will be held in St. Petersburg for the sixth time

05.11.2020

On November 4, 2020, Russia celebrates National Unity Day. The Northern capital will commemorate it in its own style by returning to the historical traditions of our city and country. The final event of the festive week - the annual city light show “Wonder of Light” - will be held on November 7 and 8, 2020 on the territory of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The festival is organized by the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg. This year’s program will be centered on the glorious naval victories of Russia.

The “Wonder of Light” festival will be the city’s first public event with controlled audience flow logistics, which will ensure the implementation of all security measures. Moreover, an information campaign of the Government of St. Petersburg will be carried out within the framework of the festival in order to popularize preventive measures against the spread of CV-19.

The event will be held in a mixed format, so everyone can join the show, even without leaving home - live broadcasts from the Peter and Paul Fortress will be held on 7 and 8 November from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the official group of the Festival on VKontakte social network, on the tv.fontanka.ru website and on the official city tourist portal “Visit Petersburg”. The colorful show and multimedia performances will be repeated every 10-15 minutes.

This year, the festival will be held on the territory of the Peter and Paul Fortress. It is a unique place, perfect for hosting a dynamic event with a possibility of programmed routing, as well as efficient division of crowd flow and limiting the number of visitors in order to maintain social distance. The venue’s location on a separate island, connected to the city by two bridges, makes it possible to split the stream of spectators. The entrance to the event territory will be allowed through the Ioannovsky Bridge, the exit - through the Kronverksky Bridge. The event preparation incorporated the experience of holding other major mixed format events, as well as the logistics of the XXII Winter Olympic Games of 2014 in Sochi.

While walking along the narrow streets of the Peter and Paul Fortress, the viewers will not only get acquainted with the history of our country’s navy, but will also find themselves in a real “Night at the Museum”, where virtual exhibition halls of city museums will open outdoors. Filled with secrets and mysteries, they will introduce you to the nocturnal inhabitants of the fortress - artifacts from the Kunstkamera museum, living sculptures from the Hermitage and unusual characters from the art galleries of the Russian Museum. Moving along the route of the festival, the audience members will enjoy an exciting journey full of mysticism and magic, accompanied by the tricks of light and sounds of music.

The city light show “Wonder of Light” has been held annually in St. Petersburg since 2016. The festival has become one of the signature events of the Northern capital. In 2018, the St. Petersburg Light Festival was included in the Top-200 events in Russia. It was awarded the status of the “National Event of 2018”. In 2019, the Festival received the Grand Prix of the Russian Event Awards in the field of event tourism as the best tourist event dedicated to the Year of Theatre.

Please note that it is MANDATORY to use personal protective equipment and observe social distance during your visit. Visitors without masks will not be allowed to enter the territory of the Festival.

ATTENTION: the entrance to the Peter and Paul Fortress will be available only from the side of the Ioannovsky Bridge! The exit is provided from the side of the Kronverksky bridge.
