World Tourism day

On the 29th of September a meeting was held in the Baltic Tourism and Enterprise Academy. The main issues of the conference were: the perspective directions of tourism development in St.Petersburg, preparation for the International conference “Tourism and Culture in the modern world, results of the “Hospitable St.Petersburg 2011” contest. The conference “Tourism and Culture in the Modern World” will be held in October, 13-14 in the Mikhailovsky castle.

The head of the Tourism Department sector of the Committee for investments & strategic projects of the Government of St.Petersburg N.G.Isaev made a report about the development of perspective sectors of tourism in St.Petersburg. An impornant element of the new development program is augmentation of the tourist flow. The new passenger port “Marine Façade” is supposed to play an important role in it. According to the annual rating by TripAdvisor portal St.Petersburg has taken the 7th position in the list of Top 25 Destinations in Europe and the 20th position in the list of Top 25 Destinations in the World.

Another important project is the 72-hours visa-free stay in St.Petersburg for tourists arriving by ferry. Discussions are in progress about applying the same regime to tourists arriving by air and by train.

Tourism in St.Petersburg has all the conditions to take leading positions in the structure of city’s economy. Cruise tourism, MICE-tourism and Yacht tourism are a powerful stimulus for investors to come to St.Petersburg.

During the meeting awards were presented to the winners of “Hospitable St.Petersburg 2011” contest.
