Russia and Finland develop yacht tourism

The chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development Andrey Mushkarev will take part in a round-table conference dedicated to the issue of the development of yacht tourism.

The Committee for Tourism Development of Saint Petersburg together with the Administration of Kotka organizes an international event — a round table conference dedicated to the issue «The Development of Yacht Tourism in St. Petersburg», which is to take place on October 6, 2016 in Kotka, Finland.  The event will gather the leading professionals in the field of sports and yacht tourism, urban planning and transportation, the representatives of the ports and the municipalities, who will discuss the ways and perspectives of the development of yacht tourism in St. Petersburg, and share their experience.

This year the event will be held at one of the brightest centers of the marine industry on the coast of the Gulf of Finland — the Maritime Centre «Vellamo» (Tornatorintie 99, 48100 Kotka, Finland), which strikes the guests by its appearance and allows its visitors to discover the stories about the sea and interesting exhibits.
At the initiative of the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg the round table is organized to attract the interest to the yacht tourism in St. Petersburg as a unique opportunity to explore the city and the nature of the region.

A number of factors, namely, the increasing interest of European sailors to travelling to St. Petersburg by water, and the opening of new marine international customs checkpoints across the state border of Russian Federation for yachts and small boats in the Northwest Federal District, and the established infrastructure for receiving yachts in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt — all of the named above makes the topic of this round table relevant and helpful for the Finnish yachtsmen in their search for new routes for travelling

The event will gather the representatives of the administration of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Finland, both amateur and professional yachtsmen, sport associations of yachtsmen of the two countries, representatives of the tourism industry, urban development and transport communication, and mass media of Finland.

During the meeting, the participants of the round table will be able to learn about the infrastructure facilities of Saint Petersburg to receive yachts from abroad, about popular yacht clubs, landmarks and touristic routes of the northern capital of Russia. The guests will learn about the capacities of the Fort Konstantin, besides, the accessibility of the island of Hogland for yacht tourism and many more questions about the development of the touristic potential of the neighboring regions will become the subjects of discussion.

About 15 experts and speakers will perform before the participants of the event — representatives of St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development, the Administration of Kotka, Cursor Oy, Passenger Port of St. Petersburg “Marine Façade”, St. Petersburg Sailing Union, leading yacht clubs of St. Petersburg and Finland, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, Marine Board under the Government of St. Petersburg, Kotka Maritime Research Center, the representatives of the historical and cultural complex “Fort Constantine” and others.
